I am Associate Professor of Communication Studies at UNC Charlotte and Research Affiliate at the Center for Global Communication Studies, University of Pennsylvania. I am also co-coordinator of Digital Arts, Sciences & Technologies (DAST), a College of Liberal Arts & Sciences initiative in digital humanities. I teach graduate and undergraduate courses in new media technology, global media and research methods.

I'm primarily interested in how the Internet is changing China and how China is reshaping the Internet, particularly in terms of political/civic participation and opportunities. I've written on Chinese digital technologies (search engine, social media), business, policies, social activism, and digital diplomacy. I am currently writing a book tentatively titled China vs. Information.
